Impact of Collective Giving
“It’s a really easy way to make a difference in the community,” said Kim Soderberg McRae, founder of the 100 Women Who Care Chestermere. With this simple yet profound statement, Kim encapsulates the essence of their mission. This non-profit group is a powerhouse of community giving, driven by local women who believe in making a difference.
Kim’s vision behind starting 100 Women Who Care Chestermere stemmed from the challenges nonprofits faced during COVID-19. She recognized the need for a simple yet impactful way for people to contribute without extensive time commitments. Thus, the idea of quarterly meetings where members donate $100 each was born. The sentiment resonates with many busy individuals looking for meaningful ways to give back.
“So many people are busy with work life and school life and looking after kids. It’s hard to give back as a volunteer,” said Kim. With around 30 to 35 members currently, the group aspires to grow further and increase its impact. Through their quarterly meetings, they’ve already donated over $20,000 to various local charities, including the Chestermere Food Bank and Community Therapy Dogs.
Kim Soderberg McRay, a born and raised Chestermerian, has deep roots in her community. Growing up in Chestermere, Kim witnessed the evolution of her hometown firsthand. Her parents were instrumental in building the Rec Center, instilling in her a sense of civic duty and community engagement from an early age.
As Kim eagerly prepares for the next meeting on May 2, 2024, she remains hopeful about the future of 100 Women Who Care Chestermere. “We’d love to hit 40 or 50 more members in order to reach that hundred,” she says, highlighting the group’s ongoing efforts to expand and support more causes.
With the success of 100 Women Who Care Chestermere, plans for 100 Men Who Care Chestermere are already in motion, amplifying the impact of collective giving. So, if you believe in making a difference and want to be part of something meaningful, consider joining 100 Women Who Care Chestermere and be a catalyst for positive change in our community.
