Chestermere’s Inaugural Golf Tournament Raises $100K
On September 19th, Chestermere came together for its Inaugural Mayor and Council Charity Golf Tournament at the beautiful Lakeside Greens Golf Course, marking a significant milestone for the community. Mayor Shannon Dean expressed his enthusiasm for the event, highlighting the incredible turnout and the positive impact it made.
“Thursday was an incredible win for our community as we hosted the Inaugural Mayor and Council Charity Golf Tournament. Thanks to our sponsors and everyone who participated, we raised over $100,000! Final numbers will be presented at the October 8, 2024, Regular Meeting of Council.” Said Mayor Dean. He noted that 75% of the proceeds will benefit the Chestermere Public Library, while 25% will support the Town of Jasper.
The event not only focused on fundraising but also aimed to bolster community spirit. Participants brought food donations for the Chestermere Food Bank, showcasing the collective generosity of residents. “We had representatives from Synergy, the Chestermere Public Library, the Chestermere Food Bank, the Rotary Club of Chestermere, and many more,” said Mayor Dean. “Having this wide cross-section of representation was incredibly invigorating. The energy, laughter, and positivity in the room were a testament to why I love this community.”
The tournament featured 18 holes of golf, with around 140 players registered to participate. With a total of 45 sponsors contributing to the event, attendees were treated to prize packages from several local businesses. The excitement peaked with a hole-in-one challenge sponsored by Bow Mitsubishi, offering players a chance to win a car.
As the day drew to a close, the event culminated in dinner where a ceremony announced the winners of various draws and raffles, as well as accolades for the closest to the pin, longest putt, and longest drive. Before dinner, Mayor Dean shared insights into the Council’s Strategic Plan, outlining a vision for the future of Chestermere.
Mayor Dean concluded his remarks with optimism for the future: “We look forward to making this an annual event, and plans are already in the works for 2025.” The Inaugural Charity Golf Classic not only raised significant funds for important causes but also strengthened the bonds within the Chestermere community.
