The Bronze Gloves Boxing Competition held at the Olympus Chestermere Boxing Club on November 25th and 26th, 2023, was a thrilling showcase of talent and sportsmanship. With 11 weight categories and 14 clubs from around Western Canada, the event created an electric atmosphere. Local youngsters Azan Lodhi and Arush Sharma made their mark, securing victories in their divisions.
“Many that came to Chestermere have never been here before and have nothing but amazing things to say about our community members and city. Most importantly, it gave us the ability to showcase what our local youth have been doing in the sport and have now put Chestermere on the map for boxing,” said Alex Halat, founding member of Olympus Boxing Club Chestermere.
The presence of Jessica Sparrow, the esteemed president of Boxing Alberta, added a touch of prestige to the competition. Sparrow not only witnessed the fierce bouts but also had the honour of presenting awards to the standout fighters. Her attendance highlighted the importance of such events in fostering the growth and development of boxing talent at the local level.
“A huge thank you goes out to all our locals that volunteered this past weekend in making the event a huge success, and most importantly, thank you to the City of Chestermere for making this event possible,” said Halat.
The Bronze Gloves event not only served as a platform for emerging boxers but also strengthened the community spirit within Chestermere. It brought together enthusiasts, families, and supporters to cheer for their local heroes, creating lasting memories for all involved. The Olympus Boxing Club, with its commitment to promoting the sport, continues to nurture talented youngsters.
