July 6, 2023 – For Immediate Release
In the early morning hours of June 28, 2023, an alert resident contacted Chestermere Municipal Enforcement, about a male dumping a large quantity of garbage and yard waste along the side of the road in the 24200Blk of Rainbow Road.
Illegal dumping, especially in the rural areas of the city is a considerable problem and it costs the city thousands each year to clean up these sites.
Municipal Enforcement is focused on addressing this ongoing issue, and with the cooperation of the public, Peace Officers were able to not only identify the vehicle being used, but also the male who was involved in this incident.
Chestermere’s innovative Bylaw not only allows for the prosecution of anyone caught illegally dumping, but also allows the registered owner of the vehicle involved in the offence to be charged as well.
Any person found guilty of illegally dumping waste, can face fines up to $5000.00.
A male from Calgary, will make his first court appearance in Strathmore later this fall.
