Date: December 17
Time: 7-10PM
Where: Chestermere Boulevard
The Chestermere Community Peace Officers and RCMP are teaming up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Alberta Sheriffs, and Chestermere Fire Services to promote safe driving this holiday season!
The event provides an opportunity for the community to connect with the Emergency Services personnel who serve them. It also serves as an important platform for Law Enforcement to educate drivers about the serious consequences of impaired driving. The best part of a Candy Cane Checkstop is that both adults and children have the chance to come through and familiarize themselves with a Checkstop, helping to build trust and understanding. In many Candy Cane Checkstops, we partner with MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), a renowned Canadian charity dedicated to preventing impaired driving and supporting victims of this violent crime. MADD Canada has garnered the support of thousands of individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations across the country in this crucial mission.
In 2021, 78,480 people in Canada were charged with impaired driving… That is 215 daily, an average of 9 every hour, 206 for every 100,000 Canadians. – madd.ca
The Candy Cane Checkstop’s primary objective is to bring education to motorists, while we are not actively looking for impaired drivers, if Law Enforcement comes across a potentially impaired driver it will be handled accordingly.
Let’s spread holiday joy and stay safe this season—drive through, say hi, and make this event a success!
