Please be aware that Chestermere Fire Services is conducting training at various locations around the city on select days from the hours of 1pm-9pm
During this time, small fires will be lit and monitored at all times by professional instructors. The purpose of the training sessions is to challenge your firefighters on incident command, resource allocation, fire attack and pump operations.
CFS will not be responding with lights or sirens to any of the training burns, although we do ask that if you encounter any of our fire crews out while they are training, please give them lots of room to practice.
This training is important for our City firefighters as it prepares them for the summer burning seasons and helps reduce risk in key areas of the City. During the burns smoke will be released in the selected areas. Please remember to close your windows and shut down your furnace/AC if you are in an affected area for the short time the smoke is present. Smoke is an irritant and can affect people with asthma, or other lung conditions. It will be short term, but if you are affected and need assistance with your medical condition please call 911.
We understand this may scare, or impact some residents and we want to assure you that we will try to minimize the effects as much as possible while conducting this valuable training and prescribed burning.
What you will see is multiple firetrucks, firefighters, instructors lighting grass areas. There will be smoke, some small fires, and emergency lights when we are parked on City streets. We will do our best to stay away from congested areas and busy streets.
We apologize in advance for any confusion or challenges and thank the residents of the City of Chestermere for their continued support. When you see these fires on these dates it is not necessary to call 911 as they will be aware of the training and locations. If you are curious and stop to watch please stay back from the hazards. Fire moves quickly and we don’t want anyone harmed. Stay on sidewalks and near roadways where there in no grass under your feet, these are safer locations.
