Chestermere’s favourite Halloween attraction, Dr. Giggles’ House of Pain, is back and scarier than ever for 2024. Mike Koroll, also known as Dr. Giggles, and his wife, Siobhan, are preparing to haunt the community for their seventeenth consecutive year. What started as a modest Halloween party in 2007 has evolved into a highly anticipated annual event. “It’s going to be demonic, sadistic, gory, and hellish,” promises Mike, raising the stakes for this year’s attendees.
Running for 10 nights, starting on October 10, the haunted house will open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday until Halloween night. One of the event’s signature features is its unique movie-night experience. This year, visitors will be treated to Cheesy Times, a short 8-minute horror film directed and edited by Mike’s collaborator, Carlos Medina. The film was shot at several locations in Chestermere, including Dr. Giggles’ own property, adding a local touch to the spooky atmosphere. “It’s a slasher set in a pizza place called Cheesy Time, and we’ve packed it with scares,” said Mike. The movie will play before guests are plunged into the immersive, fear-inducing haunted house.
It’s not just the movie that’s getting attention—almost all the props for the haunted house are custom-made by Mike’s partner, Brent Rowsell, a skilled set builder who has worked on major productions like The Last of Us. Whether it’s an eerie morgue or a dentist’s office, each room in the House of Pain is meticulously designed to create a horrifyingly immersive experience.
With ticket prices remaining at $30 and a special night dedicated to supporting the Chestermere Food Bank, this year’s House of Pain is set to be bigger and scarier than ever.
