Get Ready to be Spooked!
This 50-year-old H-VAC mechanic is a forerunner of horror, known to all as Dr. Giggles. Mike Koroll and his spouse, Siobhan Koroll, have turned their passion for Halloween into a community tradition that’s been haunting Chestermere for 16 years.
The story of Dr. Giggles began organically with Mike’s love for Halloween and hosting themed parties. In 2007, Dr. Giggles officially emerged from the shadows. “Once we had some kids over, I did one little scene, and that was well received. Then somebody offered me a tiny carport, and it just started creeping down the driveway,” said Mike.
With time, their haunted house attracted talented volunteers, keeping the scares fresh year after year. Dr. Giggles isn’t just a haunted house; it’s a variety show. “You sit and watch a slasher film we’ve shot. Then we take you into the haunted house. It’s very immersive and jump-scare-packed,” said Mike.
The Korolls’ dedication to their community is apparent. They’ve supported the Chestermere Food Bank for years and are now exploring year-round opportunities to entertain and give back. As for the future, Mike envisions expanding with the support of local organizations.
So, what’s in store this year? In 2023, they’re taking things to a whole new level, both in terms of quantity and quality. With a larger venue than ever before, their spine-chilling show will be open to the public every weekend throughout October and on Halloween night itself. And the setting could not be more perfect; just remember to cast a cautious glance at the dark woods lurking behind you as you make your way home.
“It’s going to be demonic, sadistic, gory, and hellish,”
As Halloween draws near, Chestermere braces for a spooktacular transformation entering horror, thanks to the passion and dedication of Mike and Siobhan Koroll, the minds behind Dr. Giggles.
