Interior design trips for your home
1. Make it your own.
Remember that your house is your home, not a showroom or a stylish image from a magazine. It is not about trends.
Your home should reflect you and meet your needs because you are the one who lives there. You should feel comfortable and safe in your space. The surroundings should be pleasant to your eyes.
2. Decide on a colour scheme.
Have one or two neutral colours as a canvas and add splashes of accent colours in the space.
For example, you may paint the entire house in ivory tones and have turquoise and peach as accent colours. You may add one or two accent walls and paint them turquoise or use wallpaper with peach and turquoise accents.
Also, you can add turquoise and peach artwork, cushions, plant pots, vases, draperies, and other accessories throughout your home to add a splash of colour.
3. Do not forget about lighting.
Lighting selection can impact the house’s safety, set ambiance, and atmosphere. Brighter lights can make you awake and focused, while Softer lights can create a relaxing and romantic atmosphere.
There are three types of lighting: ambient, task, and accent.
- Ambient lighting or general lighting provides uniform illumination for a room. Some fixtures include ceiling fixtures, track lights, pot lights, and torchieres.
- Task lighting provides extra light for a specific task that can take place in the room. For example, reading, sewing, cooking, and more. Some fixtures include under cabinet lighting, table lamp, and pendant lights.
- Accent lights are the focused light on a specific area or object. For example, an accent light will highlight the artwork. Some fixtures include wall sconces, floodlights, and recessed lights.
