As you may be aware, Alberta is currently facing a severe heatwave, which has significantly impacted the Western Irrigation District and many areas throughout Alberta.
Due to these challenging circumstances, the Bow River’s water level has reached a critically low flow stage. As a result, the WID has been forced to adhere to Government of Alberta regulations, limiting their diversion volume rate from the Bow River.
The WID is taking every measure possible to mitigate the impact on our water sources, and as a last resort, they will be drawing water from the Langdon Reservoir first, and the Chestermere Reservoir second.
We want to assure you that this decision has not been taken lightly, and our aim is to use this stored water supply prudently, stretching it until the harvest period. The WID is continuously monitoring the situation on a daily basis and will make adjustments wherever possible to avoid a drawdown of Chestermere Reservoir.
In the meantime, we urge all residents to take necessary steps to conserve water and to be mindful of water usage during this critical time.
