Supporting the LGBTQ2+ Community During Pride Month
Allyship, which means supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, is important during Pride Month in Canada. It’s about standing up for the rights and well-being of LGBTQ2+ people, no matter your own identity. Being an ally helps make society more inclusive and safer for everyone.
According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, 2021, allyship can exist in various ways, such as listening to past and present experiences, using inclusive language, challenging policies that are harmful, and reflecting upon intensions.
Pride Month has a deep history. It began as a protest for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights and has grown into a celebration of diversity. Allies play a key role by listening, learning, and speaking out against discrimination. Together, we can create a world where everyone feels accepted and valued.
In Canada, allyship is a big part of Pride Month. By being supportive allies, we honour the past struggles and work towards a future where everyone can be themselves without fear. Let’s keep standing together and making our communities more loving and inclusive for all.
