Camp Chestermere has continuously changed over time. The camp sits on Siksika land. In 1670 the region became part of Rupert’s Land. In 1870 the government of Canada acquired the vast expanse for $ 1.5 million. The government negotiated a series of treaties, to procure land for the construction of the railway. In 1881 the CPR was granted 25 million acres of arable land.
In 1937 CPR donated 14 acres on Chestermere Lake to the Alberta Division of the Navy League Sea Cadets. During the second world war Chestermere Lake Patrick Burns Camp served as a naval training base. In 1955 the Gospel Missionary Association purchased the camp for their summer camps. To date Camp Chestermere is the only family camp located in a city and the oldest Chestermere facility
