Chestermere is Western Canada's "Bee City"
Here’s a little known fact for you to enjoy: Chestermere is Canada’s FIRST Bee City. It’s true.
Only the second City designated in Canada, Chestermere is helping in the fight to save the declining population of bee’s. While it may go unnoticed, these little critters play an integral role in maintaining the beauty and charm of our city and we do our part to make sure they feel welcome in our parks and greenspaces.
In 2022 alone, City of Chestermere Parks Department planted over 250 native perennials as part of our Naturalization Area Rehabilitation project, which greatly supported local pollinators! Whenever new plant material is added to an existing park, every effort is made to plant flowering trees and shrubs that would be beneficial to pollinators. It’s a trade where everyone wins!
By prioritizing the needs of these small but mighty creatures, the city has not only enhanced the beauty of its parks and greenspaces, but has also created and environment where beekeepers can thrive.
